Compassionate care for pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.
Whether you're a first time mom or a seasoned pro, there's always something to benefit from the compassionate care and support of a doula. Whether you're planning to have your baby in a hospital, at home, at a birth center, with an OB, midwife, or straight up free birthing, there is something here for you, and I'm so very glad you're here.
“Mary has a passionate and gentle heart for mothers, fathers and babies. Not only did I feel seen and supported, my husband did, too. We were given resources and encouragement prenatally that helped us both feel empowered. She checked in on me frequently after I had premature abruption of membrane, and was prompt in arriving to my home once my contractions began. Throughout my labor, she offered non medical interventions (such as assisting me to different positions, offering food and water, setting up our bathroom for me to shower, holding my hand, offered me a comb for pain management) and gave my husband a chance to rest by taking over as my primary support person during his nap. Mary was so attentive and ensured she was familiar with my birth preferences so she could provide that excellent support. Postpartum, she cleaned and set up a meal for us, and checked in on how I felt about my birth experience. She was so encouraging and kind and had a wealth of postpartum resources as well. She also took pictures during my labor that I will treasure forever. I highly recommend her as a doula, and we will certainly be contacting her for all our future doula needs. During such an intensely vulnerable time, you definitely want someone who will be in your corner supporting you and reminding you of your power like Mary will.”
Hi! I'm Mary. I'm a professionally trained doula in Columbia County, Oregon. I am passionate about providing empathetic care for mothers throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. I believe the birth space, mother-baby dyad, and labor process are sacred, and that mother’s rights in the birthing space have been stolen and their voices silenced for far too long. I am committed to empowering moms with the knowledge and support they need to navigate the transformative experience of pregnancy, birth and motherhood.
“Mary did an incredible job as my doula and I am so thankful for all of her help! She took time to meet with me before my birth so we could talk in depth about my preferences and what I expected from her during my birth. I was planning to do a home birth but I ended up having to get induced and was in labor for 26 hours. She did everything she could to make me more comfortable during my labor, including providing counter pressure when needed, patting my head with a wash cloth and holding my water for me to drink from. She was so attentive! Mary also made sure to check in with me and remind me of my goals to try to have a natural labor but was respectful of my choices when I ended up getting an epidural. After my birth, she came to check in on me and brought my favorite snack, swept my house, answered all my “new mom” questions and provided me with several resources for breastfeeding and other things! Mary is so knowledgeable, kind and passionate about what she does! I highly recommend adding her to your birth team!”

Please reach us at wldbrthdoula@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
As a doula, I provide emotional, informational, and physical support.
- Prenatally, I meet with you a couple times to answer questions, learn about your preferences, and build a relationship with you as you prepare for your birth. I'm educated in pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding, so, if you have a long list of questions as a first time mom or first time doula client, prenatal appointments are a perfect time for discussing those!
- During labor, I support you physically and emotionally, in whatever way we discuss prenatally. Whether words of affirmation, double hip squeezes, massage, suggesting position changes and coping tools throughout labor. I can also help with advocacy and informed decision making with you and your provider when you're laboring.
In hospital births especially (but this is also present in some home/birth center births!), doulas can act as a bridge between the technical jargon and confusion that can come with having a baby. Having someone who you have a personal relationship with who is both educated in the birth space and in your specific preferences is invaluable during labor.
- Postpartum, I visit once or twice to prepare meals in-home (either prenatally for the freezer or hot and fresh for you) in the tender weeks postpartum to nourish your healing body while you're in that beautiful and complicated dreamland with your new baby.
As a licensed, experienced hairdresser, I provide in-home hair care for postpartum and stay-at-home moms (and their children and partners when needed!).
- Put simply, a doula is like a friend, sister, aunt, or mother wrapped into one person who is experienced and educated in what you're going through and is prepared to support you no matter what comes your way, and no matter what your choices are.
- In an age where we don't have nearly the robust support system our ancestors did, a doula stands in that gap to help be the "village" that it takes to have a baby.
While moms planning for a "natural" or unmedicated birth have a particular need for having a doula to support and guide them, moms who are planning inductions or medicated births also stand to gain a great deal from hiring a doula. Using pain medication during labor or having a cesarean birth does not exclude any woman from experiencing the whirlwind that is welcoming a new baby or becoming a mother, and it is that very whirlwind that your doula is there to put an arm around your shoulder and guide you through. All of these things considered, it is my belief that the women most in need of a doula are those who are planning to give birth naturally in the hospital, as most hospitals, no matter their spoken or written creed or policies, do not make this easily achievable for laboring moms. But it absolutely is achievable with the right support.
Let's meet! Depending on availability and distance, we can meet over coffee or Zoom for you to get to know me and learn if I would be a good fit to support you during your upcoming labor and birth. I'll review with you the role of a doula in the birth space, review my contract and packages, and I'll be available to answer any questions you may have. To schedule this, fill out the contact form below!

A doula and hairdresser wrapped up in one! I love to combine these two passions of mine. Prices vary for services provided, but essentially, I come to your house with my bag of tricks, you can hold your baby or I can wear them or they can lay down someplace, and you get to be pampered for a bit and feel more like yourself in a time where that can be a rarity. When postpartum hair loss hits, a fresh trim can really help your sense of self as you adjust to life with your new baby.

I do not discriminate clientele based on race, gender, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation or history, income level, chosen birth location, birth preferences or any other basis.
I aim to be completely forthcoming, in my life and my business alike, that I am a Bible-believing Christian. To put concisely what that means for me, I believe all sin and fall short of God’s glory. I also believe that God does not ration His love amongst those He has created. I believe we have much more in common than not. No matter what color you are, what you've done, or how you identify, I firmly believe Jesus loves you and so do I.
I acknowledge many have been hurt by members of the Christian faith as I have and may even feel hurt or offended by my beliefs. I can neither ignore that painful experience, nor can I heal it. While I do not discriminate working with clientele based on these identities, I understand if, and expect there may be cases where, because of my said beliefs, I am not a good fit for them in their birth space. Any lack of trust or lack of comfort in the birth space can be a hindrance. If someone who holds this faith, which I proudly do, would be a hinderance in your birth space I am not the doula for you. And that is alright. There are people of all sorts who need doulas, and as such there are doulas of all sorts. This being said, we do not have to agree in every way to work together harmoniously! If we disagree, I respect you. I still respect your choices, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. In fact, I care enough about you to write this statement I'm frankly uncomfortable writing and share it with you.
In reference to inclusive language such as birthing people/person, chest feeding, laboring person, female bodied person, etc, I choose not use these terms as widespread as to replace all my language on my website, or use them as my default in conversation. A significant majority of people who've given birth and breastfed identify as women and mothers and hold these titles and the transformation of matrescence in high regard. The history of women and birth will never be disentangled from each other.
This being said, if we are to have a consultation or work together and you prefer any other language or pronouns, tell me, I absolutely will use them in conversation with you and in regard to you otherwise. Each person deserves to feel fully supported, loved, and deeply known in their birth space and I will do my utmost diligence to not be a hinderance to that. Compassionate care is not one-size-fits all and can never be.
